School carnival

Elizabeth Macarthur High School will hold its first fund-raising carnival on Friday, 3pm-10pm. There will be rides, show bags, food, games and sideshow alley and a spectacular fireworks display at 9.30pm. Principal Kylie Hedger said: “I am hoping the carnival will become an annual event.”

Pack your saddle

A pack saddling workshop in Cobbitty next week is expected to inspire a new generation of pack saddlers, organisers say. Hosted by the Horsepitality Trail Riders Group, the workshop will be on September 14 at Cobbitty Scout Hall, 9am-5pm. Bookings: De’hanne Keir, 0413 596 547 or Pam Lamshed, 0417 415 641.

Vintage fashion

Things old and interesting will be on sale at the Vintage, 50s and Collectables Fair at Campbelltown RSL Club on Sunday. There will be vintage fashion, art deco, retro collectables and dolls. Antiques expert Rod Cauchi (pictured) will offer free valuations (no more than two for each per person). The annual fair raises money for the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation. There will be entertainment, lucky door prizes and a giant raffle. The fair runs from 9.30am-3.30pm at Campbelltown RSL Club. Entry is $7 for adults $2 for children. Details: 4655 5022.

Photo contest

Entries are now open for the Macarthur Nature Photographic Competition. The categories for adults and children include waterways, flora and fauna and nature close up and there are cash prizes available. The entries close on Monday, September 30, and can be submitted at Camden and Wollondilly Council administration buildings or at the Campbelltown Civic Centre.

Meals on Wheels

Camden Meals on Wheels celebrated the hard work of their volunteers during National Meals on Wheels Day last Wednesday. This is the 60th National Meals on Wheels Day.

Poisoned coffee

An Epping man, 37, charged with poisoning his partner by putting Ratsak in her coffee, appeared in Camden Court on Thursday. Jason Earl is charged with using poison to endanger life and administer poison with intent to injure. He did not enter a plea. Police allege Earl put Ratsak in his partner’s coffee on April 30 and again on May 1. The woman allegedly noticed strange-coloured granules in an instant coffee jar after drinking several cups at her home in Wilton. Earl remains on bail and will reappear in court next month.

Kermit car unveiled

Narellan Rotary Club has launched its Kermit car for the Camp Quality esCarpade at the Harrington Grove Country Club on Friday. This year’s esCarpade runs from Bundaberg to Wollongong from October 12 to 19.

Retired Police Day

Camden local area command will host an event for Retired Police Day on Monday, September 9. All retired NSW police officers living in the Camden area are invited. RSVP to Narellan police station, 4632 4499 as soon as possible.

Online pics

How do we see ourselves? is an online exhibition of photos of people and places that can be viewed throughout September. Photos that show how the area has preserved its past and how developments have brought positive change can be shared with Camden Library and the museum. The exhibition can be viewed at www.library.camden.nsw.gov.au.

History Week

Preschoolers can put themselves in the picture with a fun event to celebrate History Week. Children can have their photo taken looking at life-sized images of children from the past. The “mini-discoverers” event is free at Camden Library on September 10, from 11am to noon. Bookings: www.library.camden.nsw.gov.au.

Preserve oldies

Camden Library staff can help you preserve treasured photos. Assistance will be available at Camden Library on September 10 to digitise up to five photos on a USB for $5. Sessions will run in 15-minute slots from 10am to noon, 2pm to 4pm and 5pm to 7.30pm. Bookings: www.library.camden.nsw.gov.au.

Photojouro’s work

An exhibition of photojournalist Jeff Carter’s photographs called Beach, Bush and Battlers is now on display at Camden Library. The exhibition features 40 black and white images of Australia from the 1940s to 1996 in rural, outback, urban and coastal regions.
